George Washington Trail and Markers Booklet

Posted by:   Sierra, Haleigh, Cailean and Devon on Jun 14, 2013
Town:         Wallingford
Troop:        60170

What issue did your Take Action project address?
Community education of very important town history and the lack of available information on it.

What was your Take Action Project? Who did you involve in your project?
The girls created a booklet entitled George Washington Trail and Markers. It is all about the trail that marks the journey that George Washington took when he visited Wallingford, CT in 1775 and 1789. The girls visited the Wallingford Historical Society to gain knowledge of the trail. The girls worked separately and together on parts of the booklet and brought it all together into one successful informative piece.

What were the results? How did it affect the community?
Several booklets were distributed at the Wallingford Town Hall in the mayor's office. Mayor Dickinson was very appreciative. The office said they will distribute them throughout Town Hall. Copies were also given to the Wallingford Public Library. They are going to put a copy into their special historical case for forever safe-keeping. Over the summer, several more copies will be shared with the Wallingford Historical Society. An e-copy is available for anyone who wants it.

What did you learn from the experience?
The community wants to know more about the town's history. Most didn't even know the trail existed. The girls learned that they can share information that they are interested in and they will find a lot of people who are interested in the same things.
