We also offer trips to fun places (like spas and zoos) and plenty of training for leaders who want to polish up their skills or learn new ones. Adult Program
Journey to Gold – Building the Foundation
This workshop is for adults who are supporting girls in their road to Gold using the “new Jou ey way”. Topics covered include: important dates & definitions, working with Jou eys, take action projects vs. community service, community & mind mapping. What the terms "sustainable", "global" "measurable" and "share" mean in terms of the new Gold, and the new standards of excellence that are expected in "new jou ey way" Gold Award Take Action Projects. We will also discuss your role as a Troop Advisor during this process and ways of recognizing girls when they complete the Gold Award. This workshop is not intended for girls. Fee: $5. Become a Fitness Champion
A Fitness Champion’s role is to help girls and their families make smart and healthy choices. Does this sound like something you could do?
Fitness Champions give girls tips and tools to live healthy lives. Champions choose to volunteer in the way that is best for them. As a fitness champion you can…
• Bring your skills to a local troop meeting
• Teach adult Girl Scout volunteers so they can go back and teach the girls
• Help local Girl Scout groups organize an event or set up a 6 week series

Training
Out and About
Course length: 3 hours Fee: none
Out and About prepares volunteers to take girls on field trips beyond their meeting places and that are four hours or more in length. These trips may include, but are not limited to, trips to the zoo, museums, and/or simple hikes. It also prepares volunteers to take the girls on ove ights inside a building that has an automated heat source, electricity and running water. Topics will include health and safety, progression in the outdoors, simple hiking guidelines, and indoor food preparation.
Cost: None
Out and About training needs to be completed at least two (2) months prior to a trips longer than four hours. This allows volunteers to teach the girls how to prepare for their trip.
Please note: This course does not include any outdoor cooking or fireplace cooking techniques. Consider taking Fire, Food and Fun for fire building and simple outdoor cooking.

• Computer driven course (TR12400) - The computer-driven course is a PowerPoint presentation and worksheet that once completed needs to be retu ed to Girl Scouts of Connecticut, via email, for review. See course directions for specifics.

Basic Leader Training provides leaders with the information they need to run their troop/group successfully. Volunteers will lea how to:

• work with the girls to plan their year’s program and activities
• evaluate and plan future programs and activities
• integrate the Girl Scout Leadership Experience into the troop/group’s activities

Fire, Food and Fun
Course length: 3 hours Fee: $10
Volunteers will lea fire safety, fire building, simple one-pot meal and simple stick cooking including s’mores. This course will teach volunteers how to teach these skills to their girls. Be prepared to have fun and EAT!
Fire, Food and Fun training needs to be completed at least two (2) months prior to a trip involving outdoor cooking and fires. This allows volunteers to teach the girls how to prepare for their trip.

Course length: 6 hours Fee $45.00 (not including the cost of manual)
This course includes First Aid, Adult and Child CPR and AED. The purpose of the course is to provide lay responders with the knowledge and skills necessary to help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury and sudden illness until advanced medical help arrives. Manual is optional and is available for $9.00.
First Aid Certification: First Aid certification is good for two years. In order to stay current, you must be recertified either on or before the expiration date on your card. There is no certification grace period.

Course length 3 hours. Fee $35.00. This course is ideal for people who have been through the process of recertification before. There is only a written and skills test involved; no coaching, video, or review is provided. Participants will take the written exam first. If a passing grade is achieved, skills will then be tested in response to situations described by the instructor. If you fail your written or skills test, you must take the full First Aid/Adult & Child CPR/AED, Adult & Child CPR/AED, or First Aid course. You do not need current certification to take this course. If you are experienced with CPR, but have let your certification expire, you may take this course. Manual is optional and is available for $9.00.

Camping Adventures
Course length 27 hours. Fee $10.00. Allows girls and volunteers to expand their horizons and move out of buildings and into the outdoors. It is the third step in outdoor training. This course includes a three hour planning session followed by a 24 hour ove ight experience.
Attendance at both the planning session and weekend is required. Participants need to attend the planning session that is associated with their weekend.
Please note: Shared cost of food and supplies will be determined during the planning session. The cost of food and supplies will be in addition to the $10.00 registration fee.
