CT residents can buy cookies early, sample newest cookie near election polling locations

Hartford, Conn., October 14, 2008 - Girl Scout cookie fans no longer have to wait until the New Year to get their hands on their favorite cookie! Girl Scouts of Connecticut is offering pre-season sales at cookie booths near election polling locations across the state from November 1-4.

More than 450 cookie booths located throughout the state at schools, grocery stores, and other businesses will allow cookie lovers to stock up on their favorite treats for a limited time before the holiday season. Several will offer customers the opportunity to purchase cookies to be sent to troops overseas as part of Girl Scouts of Connecticut's Gift of Caring program.

Meanwhile, some select locations will feature a sneak taste of the new Girl Scout Cookie that will be announced at the kickoff of the official cookie season in January. The new cookie is a delicious Latin-inspired treat that was developed to celebrate Hispanic culture.

"Girl Scouts of Connecticut is so excited to reveal such a unique new cookie with a rich cultural background shared by so many of our Girl Scouts," says Jennifer Smith Turner, CEO of Girl Scouts of Connecticut. "I must admit, however, that it's hard to wait until January to announce this new treat!"

The new cookie, along with last year's seven returning contenders, will again compete for a chance at the title of Connecticut's favorite Girl Scout cookie. Samoas, last year's runner up, are still disappointed about their one percent loss to the Thin Mints and is demanding a recount. The Thin Mints, however, won't easily surrender the top spot.

Polls will open for voting in January, but returning contenders Thin Mints, Sugar-Free Chocolate Chips, Tagalongs, The Do-si-dos, Trefoils, Lemon Chalet Cremes, and Samoas are already hitting the campaign trail hard. Rumor has it the cookies are planning a wide range of campaign events this year, and it looks like the new contender in the cookie jar is going to be right in the middle of it.
