Teresa C. Younger Ends Term as Board President of Girl Scouts of Connecticut
May 30, 2013
Teresa C. Younger, Executive Director of the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women for the state of Connecticut, has ended her term as President of the Board of Directors for Girl Scouts of Connecticut as of the organization’s Annual Meeting on May 29, 2013.
Younger, a past Gold Award recipient, served as President for five years and was the second Board President of the organization after realignment into one council. As Board President, she helped drive the organization towards numerous accomplishments, including the success of the organization’s 100th Anniversary year and enabling more girl and adult members to have an active voice in Girl Scouting.
“I have been honored and privileged to serve as Board President for five years,” Younger said. “This has been an amazing experience. The relationships I have developed can only be developed in an organization like Girl Scouts. They are responsible, honest relationships. That is a reflection of the sisterhood. I leave Girl Scouts energized and ready to look ahead to the next century of Girl Scouting.”
Younger was presented with a certificate, a Girl Scouts of Connecticut pin, and a framed commemorative 100th Anniversary silver dollar by Girl Scouts of Connecticut CEO Mary Barneby.
“Teresa’s leadership, passion, and drive to make Girl Scouts of Connecticut a leading statewide organization for the leadership development of girls will be missed,” Barneby said. “She is a driving force for all girls and women in the state to have equal opportunities to pursue their dreams and goals. We wish Teresa the best of luck in her future endeavors and thank her for her invaluable service and tireless efforts to promote Girl Scouting in Connecticut.”
Younger will be succeeded by Caroline Sloat. Sloat is a resident of Thompson and is the Director of Scholarly Publications at the American Antiquarian Society. Sloat has served on the Board of Directors since 2009 and has been involved in Girl Scouting in Connecticut since 1986.
