Attention Cookie Lovers: Girl Scouts of Connecticut Launch Annual Cookie Sale January 11

January 3, 2008

Hartford, Conn., January 3, 2008 ó Connecticutís 55,000 Girl Scouts will hit the pavement and put their entrepreneurial and marketing skills to work beginning 8 a.m. on Friday, January 11 for the official start of the first statewide Cookie Program. All the usual favorites will be available: All Abouts, Do-si-dos, Samoas, Tagalongs, Thin Mints, and Trefoils, along with two new cookies, Lemon Chalet Cremes and Sugar Free Chocolate Chips. All cookies contain zero grams of trans fat per serving. In addition to Cookie orders, the Girls Scouts are seeking the publicís vote for Connecticutís favorite cookie. The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the nationís foremost entrepreneurial learning experience for girls. Through participation, girls can earn Girl Scout patches and badges by completing age-appropriate activities, which develop their decision-making, marketing, customer-service, and communication skills. Proceeds from the Cookie Program directly benefit Girl Scouts in Connecticut by helping local troops or groups afford special trips and programs that increase their learning opportunities. The public is encouraged to buy extra cookies or to donate their boxes to the Gift of Caring Program. Through Gift of Caring, purchased cookies will go to support our military troops or to a local charity that the girls have chosen. The success of the Cookie Program depends upon public support. With the recent merger of Connecticutís five Girl Scout Councils, the Girl Scout Cookie Sale has now become one annual statewide sale. Cookies will only be available from January through March, the month that cookie deliveries and booth sales will take place. If someone seeking Cookies hasnít been contacted by a local Girl Scout, Girl Scouts of Connecticut will notify a local troop so the opportunity to purchase these famous treats wonít be lost. This year the Girl Scouts are for the first time seeking the publicís vote for Connecticutís favorite Girl Scout Cookie. State residents are asked to visit www.cookievote.com and cast their vote for their favorite. The website also features information and fun facts about the eight different cookies sold in Connecticut. Voting starts January 11 and will end March 7. The cookie receiving the most votes will be unveiled as Connecticutís Girl Scout Cookie at an official ceremony on March 12, 2008, the birthday of Girl Scouting in the USA. The winning cookie in each of Connecticutís eight counties will also be reported.
