Girl Scouts of Connecticut Hosts Self-Esteem Event for Girls
May 8, 2011
Girl Scouts of Connecticut and Naugatuck Valley Community College are hosting a public event designed to empower girls with the tools and resources they need for success in the world today. This event is a continued collaboration with the Latina A.R.M.Y. (Accomplished Role-models Motivating Young Latinas), a nonprofit organization dedicated to the empowerment of young Latinas.
The conference entitled 2nd Annual Nuestra Voz Latina (Our Latina Voice), will be held on Saturday, May 21 at the Naugatuck Valley Community College campus in Waterbury from 9:00 a.m. – 3:10 p.m. Dedicated to helping girls build courage, confidence, and character, the day-long conference will offer a variety of workshops and activities for girls in grades 6-12 and their mothers or female caregivers. Programs for the girls will range from maintaining a healthy lifestyle and college preparation to stress reduction techniques and goal setting. Adults attending the conference will be able to participate in courses focused on maintaining a healthy lifestyle, supporting their daughters in college, and improving mother-daughter relationships. This year’s key note speaker will be Ruth S. Espinoza, Director of IDENTIDAD LATINA.
The cost for the day-long conference is $5 and includes the workshops, light breakfast, and lunch. Unregistered Girl Scouts will be asked to join. Financial assistance is available and limited bus transportation will also be available. Registration for Nuestra Voz Latina is available online through Girl Scouts of Connecticut’s website at www.gsofct.org or by mailing in an event registration form.
