Girl Scouts of Connecticut's 2010 Breakfast Badge Honors Foodshare CEO, Gloria McAdam

December 10, 2010

Girl Scouts of Connecticut’s 2010 Breakfast Badge Honoree, Gloria McAdam, received a one-of-a-kind Girl Scout badge during a special breakfast event on December 10 at The Hartford Club. As the President and CEO of Foodshare, Ms. McAdam was honored by Girl Scouts of Connecticut for her exemplary work in the fight against hunger.  More than 200 friends and supporters were on hand to acknowledge the inspiring community leadership of Ms. McAdam, while supporting Girl Scouting’s programs for young women. This year’s Breakfast Badge event raised about $50,000 to help fund Girl Scouts of Connecticut’s educational, recreational, and personal development programs for girls.
As the 2010 Breakfast Badge honoree, Ms. McAdam received a Girl Scout badge entitled Changing Lives. The unique badge was specially designed to reflect her commitment to feeding the hungry and her exemplary community service. Ms. McAdam also received a citation from State Treasurer Denise L. Nappier acknowledging her dedication and congratulating her on the Breakfast Badge award.
“I tell people all the time that I learned many of the basic skills of leadership from my Girl Scout and 4-H experiences,” said Ms. McAdam in accepting her award. “These programs gave me the opportunity to learn new skills, to serve my community, and raised my sights about who I could become and what I could do with my life.”
Gloria McAdam has been fighting hunger for more than 25 years. She is President & CEO of Foodshare and works tirelessly to distribute food to people in need. She supports numerous outreach efforts, advocating on behalf of hungry families, and inspiring those around her to gain a greater understanding of both the causes and solutions to hunger.
Proceeds from this year’s Breakfast Badge will help support the Girl Scout Leadership Experience which offers girls the lifetime skills they need to discover their personal best; connect with others to build healthy relationships; and take action in their communities to make the world a better place.

The 2010 Breakfast Badge Award event was supported by QSP Inc.(A Time Inc. Company), Siebert Branford Shank & Co., LLC, ConnectiCare, Inc. & Affiliates, Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company, Lockton Companies, LLC, and Webster Bank. Other sponsors included All Star Therapy, Hartford Financial Services Group, and Shipman & Goodwin LLP.
