GSOFCT SPEAKER SERIES


 Based on the latest research from the Girl Scout Research Institute, “The State of Girls: Unfinished Business,” the Girl Scout speaker series sponsored by First Niagara will inspire thought, conversation, and solutions. Hosted by a guest emcee, each event will include a short presentation of the data followed by a panel discussion from local experts.

UNITING TO "BAN BOSSY"

Ban Bossy
Girl Scouts of the USA and Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook COO, author of Lean In, and founder of LeanIn.org have partnered to empower girls to lead. Ban Bossy is about coming together to encourage girls to pursue leadership roles at home, at school, and in their lives by challenging people to stop using the word "bossy." PROMOTING GENDER EQUALITY IN STEM


Volunteers, parents, and Girl Scout supporters are welcome to join Girl Scouts of Connecticut, the Connecticut Girls Collaborative Project, and Girls RISE for a FREE forum advancing gender equality in Science, technology, Engineering, and Math. "Mentors Inspire; Role Models Matter" will be held April 28 from 8:30-4:30 at the Connecticut Science Center in Hartford. CONNECTICUT VALLEY CANOERS WANT YOU!

The Connecticut Valley Canoers are a youth canoe team, associated with the Girl Scouts of Connecticut. They practice in the spring on the Farmington River. Their season culminates in races in Upstate New York, with other girls from along the east coast! For more information, visit their website.

We want to hear from you! Sign up now to be part of a panel and have a voice in the future of Girl Scouts. You will take an introductory survey and then be invited to take 1-3 surveys over the course of the year. Just check out the Girl Scout Voices site!

 

UPCOMING GIRL PROGRAMS

Girl Scout Day at Mystic Aquarium
Join us on April 26 at Mystic Aquarium to explore the different forms of energy in people, animals, and nature. Also, learn about ways you can conserve energy everyday. Girl Scout activities will be from 10:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m., and then you can spend the rest of your day exploring the aquarium on your own. See this flyer for more information. Register by April 16.

Sow What JourneySow What Weekend
A weekend for both Girl Scout Seniors and their leaders, June 20-22 at Camp Pattagansett in East Lyme. Girls will explore the Sow What Journey, identify food issues, and work on making goals. Adults will learn how to mentor girls through the Journey. Sessions will be held indoors and out. See this flyer for more details. Register by May 19.

Earn a badge at the Microsoft Store

We have worked with the Microsoft Store at Westfarms Mall to offer badge workshops for Brownies and Juniors! All workshops are free, but space is limited. Visit the Microsoft Store website to view the events and register, or see this flyer for more information

Challege Course Facilitator Training
Ever wanted to experience the adventure of the Challenge Course at Candlewood? Interested in helping girls experience the benefits of conquering the elements? Then this facilitation course is just right for you! This training is for both adults and Girl Scout Ambassadors. Register now, there are only 12 spots available!
Training will be at Camp Candlewood, New Fairfield, on April 26, from 9:00 a.m.—5:30 p.m. Register by April 21 using event code PO14131. For more info, see this flyer or contact the Outdoor Program Department at camp@gsofct.org or 1-800-922-2770.
