90th Birthday Singalong
Posted: Apr 25, 2008
As a leader, I brought my Brownie troop to the 90th Birthday Singalong at Madison Square Garden. It was so wonderful, being in the largest city in the US and walking along the city streets amid so many Girl Scouts! For many of my girls, it was their first time in the city and they were so excited. They had never seen a 2-story MacDonald's before and were thrilled to see that the top of the Chrysler building really did shine! The singalong was so much fun. We met Girl Scouts from all over including some Guides from Canada. We had made swaps at our recent meeting and the girls enjoyed swapping their swaps up and down the aisles. Newly elected Senator Hillary Clinton spoke and girls from around the New York area performed amazing dances. Then we all sang old favorites and learned new Girl Scout songs. The train ride home was almost as much fun as the singalong! I bought some treats at a deli in Grand Central that we shared on the train. The train was almost entirely Girl Scouts so we kept the singalong going. Girls walked up and down the aisles sharing Girl Scout stories, swapping swaps, and singing songs. My Brownies felt so proud to be Girl Scouts that day and I know it is a memory they will treasure and will remember when they are Girl Scout leaders.
