Bluebirds study for Bronze award
Posted: Oct 15, 2012
Our girls earned their Bronze award by monitoring the bluebird population at Bauer Park. Weekly the girls would check on the status of the 15 or so birdhouses, noting the stage of nesting process. The girls were able to witness the entire process from nest building to baby bird. Not all nests were successful and some predators allowed the girls to witness death in nature. But touching the new born baby birds and knowing they had a part in it was the greatest reward. All of the data they collected was then sent to Cornell University for further study. It was a time consuming project but also rewarding.
